What makes a physical education teacher? Personal characteristics for physical education development

Background The physical education (PE) teacher is a decisive factor for PE development and teaching. Reflecting on making the best possible use of teachers’ personal resources positively influence effectiveness student achievement. This requires comprehensive analysis characteristics. Aims Consequently, this study aimed to describe teachers by using an aggregated examination synergistic characteristics analysing gender, age, school type differences. Sample 1,163 German (61.9% female; M = 43.16 ± 10.8 years) from six different types participated in study. Methods Participants completed self-report questionnaires assessing General Personality Traits, Interests, Motivational Characteristics (Teacher Self-Efficacy, Enthusiasm, Interests). Descriptive analyses, between subjects MANOVAs, univariate ANOVAs with pairwise multiple comparison tests were applied. Results Multivariate gender differences occurred Traits (?2 .04), Interests .07), .03); age .05); .11). Considering individual dimensions, revealed most differences, especially Interests. School Characteristics. Conclusion educational personnel can (1) make general stable factors aligning teaching accordingly, example considering (2) specifically foster regarding by, adapting or professional training particular type.
